END OF AN ERA
STAGE AND COSTUME DESIGN
A collaboration with graduating students of Department for Contemporary Dance, Iceland University of the Arts.
They are destined to dance this piece
together
A dancer's graduation show marks both a beginning and an end. It is in a rite to passage where they end their three year period together as students and dance their way into the next stage as professional dance artists. Here they say good bye to the past and celebrate that which is yet to come. One thing leads to another, one movement into another, one wave becomes another, ultimately creating a tsunami that metamorphoses once again.
The piece is inspired by how dance has through the ages connected people at times of change. Dances and dance rituals connect hears, soles, bodies and enhances compassion and togetherness in those who participate. The group researched chains and chain-reactions, how one can build and break the circle of beginning and end, in order to create a dance piece dedicated to the unknown future.
