BRÚÐUMEISTARINN / THE PUPPET MASTER
STAGE AND COSTUME DESIGN
Bernd Ogrodnik has been a prominent figure in the world of Puppetry since 1986. He is the Artistic Director and Co-founder of the Icelandic Center for Puppetry Arts, and serves as the Master Puppeteer for the National Theater of Iceland.
The Puppetmaster is a play based on Bernd's life and childhood trauma as well as his family history. The only character is the recluse puppeteer Günther Obermeyer, who through his puppets deals with his childhood trauma and the so-called 'German back-pack'; the trauma and guilt of WWII passed down to the children and grandchildren of those who lived under the Nazi regime.
